A rumor traveled the circles of the supernatural. Mutants heard a safe, underground railroad was being started, inquire at the Summit. The beyond sought the strange power said to rest at the Summit of New York City. The gossip flitted amongst the rest: valuable information was to come to light when dawn broke over the Summit.

Cus Im frome New Yoooooooooooork!-Training- Empty

Here was where Gemini wanted to be. No, not location-wise, but metaphorically speaking. She was friends with a New York City detective, a telepath but he was acting strange he kept referring to a Nameless. She had a baby boy - roughly seven months old - who had been returned to her care. This was all thanks to the person she trusted most - a shapeshifter whom she had only known for four days. And, even since then, she had a partner in anti-crime, as Gemini affectionately referred to it. She had a family. She had friends she trusted. She was making a difference, helping to rid of streets of filthy scum. Like a real life Batman, she thought to herself, looking down at the pedestrians walking below. What was she doing now? Fetching rent money to hand over to Naomi. Whether the woman agreed to being helped by Gemini or not, Gemini would not allow her and her baby to intrude on Naomi's hotel room without contributing. Seeing as most forms of work require an identity, a social security number, a reliable mode of transportation, a home address, a phone number - none of which the amnesiac Gemini had any knowledge of - she earned her bread the best way that she knew how.

No, not that way. Gemini was a thief. How could one be a vigilante and a criminal? Wasn't such hypocrisy? But Gemini didn't seem to believe that it was so - thieving was a crime, yes. But forgivable, if in moderation. Assault, rape, child molesting, murder - these were crimes. Possibly forgivable for a first offense - an emphasis on possibly - but hopefully God looked down any who dared to repeat it. For, between Gemini and her new-found partner, Will, the scum would very soon be meeting his or her God. But enough of such thoughts - Gemini had a task at the moment, observing people. Delving into thoughts. Since gaining her telepathy, there was nothing she enjoyed more than people observing. It wasn't that she wanted to invade their privacy, but to better understand the person. To better understand the people that she protected, to better understand the people that she hunted. And, currently, to find out who could afford a small financial loss. No, nothing could bring her down from the high she had now. Nothing within the limits of her own imagination, anyway.

Life. It's so over-rated...

At least for the poor, ignorant saps that surrounded Anne Marie as she walked down the sidewalk. Her green eyes darted from one person to the next. The icy stare shot like daggers into each soul, piercing them and making them uncomfortable so that each of them in turn looked away, somehow intimidated by the unknown evil that lurked within the beautiful but cold woman. Anne smiled grimly as each person shied from her, often moving a step to the side as their intuition picked up on something they could not see.

Like animals, she thought.

But no one was more of an animal than her, and she knew it. Each person she passed fueled within her the desire to reach out and touch someone. She needed to hear them scream. She wanted to watch them die. She had a thirst for blood that was never quenched and had not yet met anyone who could enjoy it with her as Ben had. What a shame he left her for a "normal" life! As if the monster within him would ever allow the man to forget his hunger, his basic needs. No, he would come back groveling to be let into her embrace again, and then she would kill him - over and over and over again.

Yes....

Anne Marie licked her lips as the saliva collected in her mouth. Ben's memory tantalized her. Teased her. Made her want to each out and strangle somebody. Her fist hit the brick wall and pieces shattered from its impact, sending a small spray of rubble to the path. Her adrenaline had kicked in from her excitement and anger. Ben proved to be able to bring both out in her. He was useful for much.

And in so many ways.

He granted her immortality, and for that Anne Marie let his little woman live. For now. Oh she would get hers, but not while carrying his child. No, Anne Marie would wait until she could drain the life of both mother and child in front of the man who betrayed her. Then she would have her revenge. Then he would see his mistake. Then he would kill her and the vicious, bloody cycle of pleasure and pain would begin anew! Anne Marie could hardly wait. In fact, the very thought made her giddy!

Seeing a young man walking toward her, Anne Marie determined he would be her next victim. He was ruddy with a good frame and masculine body. Youthful but not a child. He would not die as easily as some she hoped, and yet he would lose his life most assuredly. And he would do it pleasuring her in the way she most appreciated.

Screaming.

Bleeding.

Begging.

Running her tongue over her lips alluringly, Anne Marie approached the young man. She sized him up to be in his early to mid twenties. Plenty of life force to feed her. Plenty of fight left within. She smiled and let the evil drain from her eyes to be filled with promise instead. Anne Marie reached out and touched the sleeve of his jacket and put on an air of innocence, accentuated by her deep southern drawl.

"'Scuse me. Ya wouldn't happen tah know which way tah 36th Street?" she asked, mustering all the kindness her ice cold heart could find. She was an excellent actress, but knew men were easily blinded by looks - and she had that in spades. "Ahm visitin' mah cousin and stayin' at th' Comfort Inn. I thought it was just around th' corner but..." She emphasized "comfort" then acted flustered and maybe a bit embarrassed. The guy took the bait however and pointed, trying to give directions Anne already knew so well. She lowered her eyes and pouted her lips slightly. "Yer so nice... Maybe you can walk me there? Ahm a lil' scared in this big city."

Bingo! The man came up beside her and began to walk her to her perceived destination. Little did he know getting inside her room would be easy, though he probably would have liked that idea. But getting out - that would be impossible.

Gemini removed her gloves, pocketing them for a brief time. Cupping her hands, she slowly blew warm air into them. Februarys in New York City typically averaged at a maximum of forty degrees Fahrenheit. That's what the weatherman on Naomi's hotel television said, anyway. Before laughing and noting that today's would be twenty-six. Haha, Mr. Weatherman, thought Gemini. Quite the comedian.

But weather couldn't stop Gemini from the task at hand. No, especially not with her promise of payments to Naomi, and even more especially with a child on board. She needed the money - whether it be stolen directly or items taken and fenced at the local pawn shop. Family and integrity were both two things that Gemini held highly. And since she had discovered young Isaac was hers, that was the new order of importance - with family being first.

Gemini's eyes settled on a young man, probably in his early-to-mid-twenties. He was walking alone, looking down at a watch on his arm as he strode. She moved to the adjacent rooftop, stalking her prey... I mean target. Prey sounds so... violent. But even as she readjusted, taking another look at the man, another woman - dark clothed and slightly older looking than herself - stepped in, talking to him. The woman smiled at the man.

Smirking, turning away to find another target as she reached to remove her gloves from her pocket, Gemini abruptly stopped herself, shivering. It was strange - not a shiver from the cold. Something involuntary, something wicked, something wrong. Gemini brought herself closer to the edge, looking down intently at the man again. Was there something wrong about him? His thoughts - Gemini twisted her face up in disgust, as he was imagining what he wanted to do to the smiling woman with him. It didn't quite give her the cold shiver that she had felt before, but...

If that woman only knew, Gemini doubted very much she would have anything to do with the man. She would need to keep a closer eye, she decided, moving to match their pace. Exhaling, with a running start, she leapt to a fire escape on the next building and began hoisting herself up. If this man was anything like the ones that her and Will chased down, Gemini may have some heroics to do, and keep that woman out of trouble. And, should that man have anything of value, Gemini could knock out part of her financial need in the mean time. The woman's potential trouble was no doubt important - hence why Gemini was now in hot pursuit - but family still came first.

Anne Marie was oblivious to the woman following along on the rooftops, but had she been aware, she would only have been more excited. She knew she was invincible short of being buried alive, but to do that would inevitably require someone to get close to her. And God knew touching her was the last thing anyone ever wanted to do on purpose. Not that she was a hideous or unpleasant in any way to the eye, but with a touch the woman could drain the life of any of her captors. That wasn't even to to mention her primal rage and regeneration. They would never get her into the ground, let alone a box, before she tore them to shreds and satiated herself with their screams.

The man who walked beside her had an easy gait and a gullible mind. All he could see was her assets and the facade she fed him. Soon, he would be feeding her, however, and the man would never judge a book by its cover again. In fact, he wouldn't judge anything. His life would feed Anne's aura the same way his screams would fill her ears and overflow her joy. She looked at him with hunger in her eyes.

Soon, very soon.

The man saw her hunger and mistook it for sexual desire, though to be fair, perhaps for Anne Marie it was sexual. It certainly made her excited in that way, pleasured her to satisfaction. Often the draining of a man allowed her sexual release in ways only Ben Carver had ever been able to physically perform. Gah, how she missed him sometimes! But then Anne would recall how how he left for the mortal woman and his child. He would live to regret that for all eternity. Anne Marie was not a woman to be betrayed, abandoned or otherwise picked over. No, she would have her revenge.

Her eyes nearly glowed with the anger she felt surge through her veins at remembering all she was missing with Ben, but the man was too intent on puffing himself up to notice. Anne Marie gave a smirk at his naivety. So full of pride in his manliness that he missed the evil that lurked barely below the surface of the Southern belle. The black clothing should have clued him in that something was off, but thanks to the Goth movement, little was out of place except her sappy little southern tone amid the harshness of her features.

They neared the hotel and entered, Anne Marie inviting the man inside to say thanks and to meet her cousin. The man, albeit disappointed there might be a cousin to meet, was all too willing to enter her hotel room. His pleasure at finding her room empty, however, was not easily hidden. Anne Marie feigned minor disappointment before allowing a beguiling smile to cross her lips. "'How c'n Ah e'er thank you fer gettin' me back 'ere safe an' sound?" she asked seductively, drawing nearer the man.

He smiled and locked the door behind him with the deadbolt and the chain, ostensibly to keep her cousin out she figured, but permanently sealing his fate. Anne Marie grinned, the wickedness showing itself just before she plunged in and ripped off his shirt. His youthful vigor was quite evident as he pressed his lips harshly onto hers and for an instant he was mighty pleased with himself. Then in one horrifying moment of popping veins and strained vision, he realized his doom.
But he couldn't pull himself away. Her drain was too strong.

After a few seconds, Anne Marie pushed the man back onto the bed, breaking contact. His breath came in labored gasps, trying to recover something he never would. His life. Anne Marie smiled and laughed, an utterly devilish sound of pure evil, though she kept it low enough so as to not draw too much unwanted attention yet. She withdrew a knife from the side drawer and let it trace blood arcs around his bare chest before she plunged it into his side.

"Scream!" she demanded, straddling his writhing body on the bed. "Fight me, dammit! Show me yer a man!" Anne Marie struck his face with her hand, then enclosed his neck with her fingers, draining just a bit more life as she leaned close to his ear and reached for his jeans. "Er maybe ya ain't a man at'all," she whispered menacingly as she searched for what made him male physically in order to remove it with her bare hands. He would smile and the Nameless creature would surface his eyes turning red.....Continued
