The Biography
|
Birth Name: Trent Anderson Aliases: Throne, The Unbandaged One Gender: Male Age: 18 Birth Date: June 16th, 1993 Class: The Blessed
Appearance: Trent is, for the most part, a pretty average teenager. He’s a good-looking kid, or would be if it weren’t for the scar; strong jaw-line, high cheek bones, copper hair that varies between wavy and curly that he keeps cropped pretty short. He dresses like a normal semi-preppy high school student, in jeans and shirts from stores like American Eagle, The Gap, and Abercrombie & Fitch. His build is on the more fit side of average, the build of someone who still has a teenage metabolism and keeps pretty active.
The first things people tend to notice about him are the scar and his eyes. They latter are a deep green, flecked with blue and gold and devastatingly expressive. Every so often, they betray age far beyond his years. The former is a quarter-inch wide raised white tract of flesh that extended from his left temple, down his cheek, to finally stop at the small cleft in his chin.
What most don’t see are the other scars. Beneath his clothing, there is a veritable network of them, ranging from gruesome criss-crossing lines to gunshot puckers and stab-wounds that were healed over when he was brought back.
He has no costume, no transformation, nothing to separate the boy from the hero. He participates in the vigilante game as is.
Personality: Again, in many respects, Trent is pretty normal. He’s still very new to this whole “Resurrected Chosen of Isis” thing, but is attempting to approach it with as much good humor as he can muster. He’s just above average intelligence and is very okay with that, though he does have his moments of wittiness.
He’s also pretty guilty. He knows what a douchebag he once was, and is firmly convinced he never wants to tread that road again. He does his best to do good by the world, and if that means risking his life for the sake of others or giving up Friday nights at the mall, he’s okay with that. Mostly. Sometimes.
Sometimes he remembers that the weight of the world is sort of on his shoulders, as well. In those moments, he isn’t particularly heroic. He freaks out, and might need some talking down. Usually, this is the result of witnessing horror on a pants-pissing scale, so eventually, he’ll grow out of it. His relationship with Ma’at, the cosmic justice that supposedly keeps the scales of reality balanced, is still tenuous. As is his role of “Chosen One”. Other heroes tend to see him as just some kid, and aren’t prone to taking advice from him, never mind orders. How the hell is he supposed to become a leader of men, even if he does have some innate talent for commanding attention and manipulating others?
Having an ancient Egyptian priestess in his head sometimes makes him seem crazy. He hasn’t quite mastered the fact that he can communicate with her silently, so often, he’ll respond to things she says out of reflex.
For her part, Nefeki is very much a company woman. She toes the line of Ma’at at every turn, serving as part-conscience, part-teacher to Trent. She is extremely hateful towards “unnatural evil”, and urges Trent toward being just and wise above all else.

The Capability
|
Rank:C
Specialties:
—Main Specialty: Projection —Sub Specialty: Leadership
Powers:
—Main Power: Hekau (Magic) - Ancient Egyptian sorcery that uses Sekhem (life-force/power) to evoke effects. Most of the applications are defensive in nature, though some offensive ones exist. The ability to prefer Hekau is limited by the user's Sekhem, leading to rapid exhaustion or even death with overuse. —Main Power: Soul Manipulation - Trent is capable of perceiving and manipulating souls, both his own and others, in ways that mesh with Egyptian beliefs about the soul. —Sub Power: —Sub Power:
Abilities:
—Name:Repairing the Vessel —Rank:C —Power:Hekau —Description:By tapping into the Sekhem that keeps him alive, Trent is capable of healing himself and others. Doing so requires physical contact so that the energy can do its work, and time. Minor cuts and bruises can be healed fairly quickly. Broken bones and serious lacerations might take a few minutes. Wounds that would otherwise be mortal might take a few hours. Doing so requires his full concentration, and leaves him exhausted with more than moderate use. When used on himself, he falls into a deep sleep for anything that would take more than a few minutes, leaving him quite vulnerable.
—Name:Wandering Soul —Rank:C —Power:Soul Manipulation —Description:Trent ‘s soul behaves differently than most. He can cast it out from his body at will, leaving his body inert and helpless. Some forms of energy detection may be capable of discerning him in this state, but he is otherwise undetectable unless he wishes to be seen, in which case he manifests in a ghostly fashion, able to be seen and heard but unable to interact with the physical world or be interacted with. He retains the uses of his senses, and can “fly” at ~50 mph, making this an excellent technique for reconnaissance. Additionally, if his soul is removed from his body unwillingly (usually via death), it lingers for a week, during which he must find a new body or pass on permanently.
Name:Sekhem Shield —Rank: C-S —Power: Hekau —Description: By outwardly manifesting his Sekhem, Throne is capable of creating a solid shield capable of withstanding quite a bit of punishment. The shield has a range of 10 meters and manifests in the form of a two-dimensional scarab of light-blue energy, and once constructed cannot be moved. The shield can be created at any angle or position, though it cannot co-occupy space with solid matter upon creation. The scarab is eight feet tall and four feet wide
Several same-rank physical blows or one focused powerful attack of the same rank or higher will break the shield, which appears to crack until it bursts into harmless pieces of blue energy that resemble glass and disappears.
Name:Restore the Vessel —Rank: C-S —Power: Hekau —Description: A complimentary ability to Repair the Vessel, this allows Throne to utilize his Sekhem to cure living beings of a variety of ailments. Any mundane disease can be cured in this method, but physical contact is required and the extensiveness of the disease lengthens the time that Throne must work. A simple cold could be eradicated with a touch, a bacterial infection or the like might take a full post, two if it were particularly advanced. Systemic diseases such as cancer or AIDS might require him to channel Sekhem for days to grant full remission, rendering them incurable in combat scenarios.
The spell works by gradually restoring the individual to a natural, healthy state. It is equally effective against the results of other powers that would be considered an unnatural or unhealthy physical change (not mental; this power cannot cure insanity unless it is the symptom of a physiological affliction), up to C-Rank.
Name: Wisdom of Thoth —Rank: C-S —Power: Hekau —Description: This spell allows Throne to gain a single temporary Skill one level below his rank for two posts. The Skill in question can only apply to what would be termed “knowledge”, and must be generalized. He could quickly become well-versed in Biology, but he could not become well-versed in an enemy and learn their secrets/weaknesses.
Knowledges which require a physical component to be effective can be gained, but the physical component does not carry over. By choosing “Martial Arts”, Throne would become an excellent commentator for a martial arts event; he would not, however, be any more capable of performing martial arts than he was prior. Alternately, the spell can be used to grant Throne the ability to understand, speak, and write all human languages for the duration.
This spell takes a several word incantation to enact, and can be used only once per thread. At B-Rank, the effect persists for 3 posts; at A, 4; at S, an entire thread.
Name: Sekhem Orbs —Rank: C —Power: Hekau —Description: This spell allows Throne to build up an overcharge of raw Sekhem and blast it at opponents. The Sekhem coalesces into balls 8” in diameter that wreath his hands; he may then hurl them rapidly at targets within 20 meters. It’s a little like throwing, but Throne is much more accurate with Sekhem Orbs than he would be with, say, a baseball; immediately upon leaving his hands, they streak forward at 50 mph in a straight line. They explode on contact, blasting a 3 meter area with concussive force that can easily render a normal human unconscious on a direct hit.
Name: Sekhem Flare —Rank: C —Power: Hekau —Description: This spell allows Throne to build up an overcharge of raw Sekhem and discharge it in a flare from his body. This manifests as a flash of blinding blue light, and anyone looking directly at him when it goes off will be blinded for 3 posts (unless they have protective eyewear , no eyes, or any of the other various mitigating factors possible). Common sunglasses do not protect against this effect; any eyewear that would must be D-Rank Tech or higher.
Name: Soul Sight —Rank: C —Power: Soul Manipulation —Description: This passive ability allows Throne to “see” the souls of others, whether they be in or out of body. In addition to letting him see the ghosts of human-originating beings while they linger, it lets him tell with a glance whether someone is good, evil, or somewhere in between. For the sake of communicating this information, assume a 5 point scale with 1 being Pure Evil and 5 being Pure Good; the weight of sins that he is capable of perceiving is no more detailed than that at this level. It will also reveal any effect on an individual’s soul, such as a spell, demonic contract, soul-oriented possession, etc. This DOES NOT affect psychic abilities with a similar function.
Name: Mantle of the Sahu —Rank: C-A —Power: Soul Manipulation —Description: By strengthening the power of his ka, Throne can surround himself in a visible aura that makes him seem grand and important. The aura takes on a golden color, similar to depictions of pharaohs in ancient Egyptian artwork. At C, this affects only individuals who can see and hear Throne. At B, it includes anyone who can hear his voice. At A, his voice is empowered, carrying for 100 meters and affecting anyone within range regardless of whether they can hear or not. This does not function with technology; a megaphone would not enhance his distance, and a televised broadcast would have no effect at all.
Civilians affected will be unable to attack Throne, save in self-defense. They will listen to him, and give them the same regard they would whomever they respect most. While this is not mind-control, it can seem very similar, since as long as what he says would not cause them direct harm or conflict with their personal beliefs, the crowd will generally obey.
Strong-willed individuals (e.g. player characters and important NPCs) are less affected. They will still be more inclined to listen to Throne, and to find him a credible source of information. They can attack him, and are under no direct compulsion to carry out his orders- the orders will just seem more sound.
Name: Strengthen Ab —Rank: C-S —Power: Soul Manipulation —Description: The ab corresponds to the heart, and is the seat of emotion in the soul. By strengthening his own ab, Throne can become immune to techniques that would manipulate his emotions regardless of means. This affects only direct emotional control or urging; it does not block out telepathy, mind control, or similar abilities. Once activated, it persists for the remainder of the thread and counters all relevant same rank or lower abilities that target Throne.
Skills:
—Name:Ancient Knowledge —Specialty:Projection —Rank:D —Description:Having one’s soul merged with that of an ancient, powerful priestess has it’s fringe benefits. Nefeki has existed, in her fashion, for thousands of years, and been bonded with Chosen dozens of time. As such, she can share quite a few insights into history, tactics, and magic with Trent, and generally does.
—Name:Super Delegate —Specialty:Leadership —Rank:D —Description:Trent has a certain knack for delegation. When faced with a set of tasks or situation and a bunch of variables and participants, he can usually figure out the best way to get things done. Whether or not anyone agrees with his plans is another matter…

The Background
|
History: Trent was an average dude, once. Well, maybe not so average. Not every teenager winds up being one of the biggest drug dealers in the suburbs, but, we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
His name is actually Matthew, but that’s irrelevant now. Matthew got a full page memorial in the yearbook.
His parents were wealthy, and like most wealthy parents, were kind of busy all the time. Not getting the attention he needed at home, Trent turned to school and friends for validation. Normal stuff. Through grade school and middle school, he was always one of the “popular” kids. Not a jock; he was too lazy for that. But he was tight with the jocks, and the cheerleaders, and the badasses who weren’t burn outs… it was a nice life.
High school was a turning point. That was when he got into drugs. Just pot, at first, then pain killers, and a whole slew of worse stuff. His parents provided a copious allowance, but when he started acting out, they cut it off quick, and he was turned to more nefarious means to stay aloft.
Those means turned out to be dealing. Just a little, at first, to friends at school. He got in deeper and deeper, though, and eventually things exploded in his face. The guy he got stuff from got into trouble with some even bigger fish. Trent just happened to be there the night they came calling. His friend/dealer got shot right in front of him, and he bolted. The criminals gave chase, and managed to riddle him with bullets as he raced away in his car. He hit a telephone poll, and… well, that should have been the end.
It wasn’t. Trent doesn’t really remember the transition, but somehow, he ended up on an airplane, bound for Africa- Egypt, of all places. He was in a haze, but just knew that he had to get to Alexandria by any means necessary.
When he arrived, he was drawn to a temple, and that was when shit got really weird. It turned out that he had indeed died, but that his broken soul had been merged with that of an ancient priestess of Isis so that it could make this pilgrimage. Some living priests gave him the whole rundown: he was one of the Chosen, the rare few who could be joined in such a way. The ritual involved was one that Isis herself had created, and it had been passed down among her followers for millennia.
He had a choice. He could go on to the afterlife, which would probably be unpleasant on account of what a dick he had been, or he could accept The Joining and live on to make the world a better place. Trent quickly chose the latter option, and after some Magical Boot Camp, was shipped back to The States to battle evil wherever it reared its head.
It turned out that being declared legally dead was about the best thing that could happen in his situation. Sure, he’d miss graduation and college, but it made it a hell of a lot easier to fade into the woodwork. Nefeki, the priestess, urged him to use the identity documents that the priests had given him to start a new life, one through which he would be unbound from concerns that would keep him from doing his duty.
He headed to New York. The biggest city in the world would undoubtedly need him the most, and be the easiest to get lost in. He got a shitty apartment and an equally shitty job waiting tables in a dive restaurant to make ends meet, and then… he hit the streets. He didn’t know the first thing about finding evil, never mind stopping it, and so it’s still a largely experimental process.
